The Rectory

A playful twist on a period property, thoughtfully designed for functional, modern-day living.

A fresh start

Having previously worked with the clients on their London home, we were thrilled to be asked to update this stunning country house. Our brief was to breathe new life into the ground floor of this historic, 17th-century building.

embracing colour

The clients – a sociable family – are lovers of bold colours, which we fully embraced. In the kitchen, the uneven angles and original surfaces of the walls and doors have been preserved, which adds to the unique character of the room. The addition of vertical panelling was a practical solution that aided the installation of bespoke cabinetry whilst allowing for the introduction of colour.

Starting with a neutral base, we have incorporated muted primary colours into this sunny kitchen scheme. An adjoining unloved utility room has been transformed into a glamorous and cocooning bar which can be used for both pre-and post-dinner drinks. The result is a timeless finish with functionality at its core that fully reflects the client’s likes and lifestyle.

“Emma and her team transformed our kitchen and ancillary rooms, somehow retaining the original character of the house whilst bringing it up to date. The result is fresh and modern, and a wonderful space to live in. We have especially enjoyed the bar! Highly professional and a pleasure to work with.”
