denmark villas

A serene, welcoming and elegant family home with functional living areas for socialising and relaxing.

A blank canvas

Denmark Villas is a characterful, four-storey townhouse that sits in a wide, tree-lined avenue in the centre of Hove. The house was originally built in the late 1800s and has retained many of its original features, providing us with a stunning blank canvas to work with.

reimagined space

We have reconfigured every floor to create a warm and inviting home for a couple and their young daughter. Work began in the basement – previously a warren of small, dark rooms. Our clients are particularly keen cooks, so a handsome, hard-working kitchen with designated areas for storage and preparation was essential.

Our approach has opened up the rooms to create a spacious kitchen dining room. Internal glazed doors and metal and timber screens divide the space to create sought after anterooms. The use of glass allows natural light to flood the basement whilst maximising the feeling of space.

Timber floors and new joinery create a sense of coherence as you walk through the house, whilst the consistent use of earthy colours and natural textures conjure an informal yet elegant feel. A thoughtful selection of furniture, lighting and soft furnishings gives the sense of an authentic home that has been created gradually over time and includes a balance of old and new, contemporary and traditional pieces.

Old meets new

TIMELESS TRANSFORMATION

Upstairs, we have transformed a small bedroom into a generous en-suite bathroom. Two previously tired and fairly uninspiring attic bedrooms have been painstakingly panelled and we have moved a copper bath from the first floor to the attic bathroom, reinvigorating what was once a neglected area of the house.

Meticulous joinery, natural materials, organic textures and a calm colour scheme lend this handsome home a relaxed, luxurious and timeless feel.

“Emma has successfully created a space which now functions beautifully as our family home; including a study, a play space for our daughter, a bespoke kitchen and elegant entertaining areas throughout. These have all been carefully balanced to provide us with a home that is now an exquisitely calm sanctuary. Without exaggeration, I can say that Emma’s design and layout have transformed our living experience.”
